What Really Happens During an Energy Treatment?
The word energy is used constantly
High energy, low energy, energetic blocks, people who drain us, places that recharge us and days when we feel we have nothing left

It is a familiar word and at the same time difficult to define because it may refer to physical vitality, emotional state, attention or something subtler that we perceive without being able to measure precisely
When I speak about an energy treatment, I do not mean a magical formula capable of solving every problem and I do not mean a practice that requires blind belief
I mean a space in which the rhythm slows down, the body can stop reacting continuously and the person can listen to what is usually covered by the noise of daily life
What is an energy treatment?
An energy treatment is a complementary practice that works through presence, light touch or hands held near the body, breathing, sound, silence and intention
Different traditions use different words
Some speak about chakras, others about meridians, prana, chi, the subtle field or life force
These maps belong to different cultures and spiritual systems and should not be confused with anatomical structures or medical diagnoses
Their value also lies in the symbolic language they offer
They allow us to observe how we feel, where we perceive openness or closure, where we feel present and where there seems to be distance
At marilü, I use energy work as a tool for listening and rebalancing, not as a promise of miraculous healing
How a session begins
Every session begins with a short conversation
You do not need to prepare a perfect explanation or know exactly what you want to transform
You may arrive saying that you feel tired, confused, overwhelmed, disconnected or simply curious
You may also have no precise words
Sometimes the body speaks before the mind
During the conversation, we observe the period you are living through, what you feel in the body and the intention with which you want to enter the session
The intention does not have to be a huge goal
It may be something simple such as feeling more grounded, creating silence, releasing a weight, reconnecting with the body or finding greater clarity
What happens on the treatment table
During most energy treatments, you remain dressed and lie comfortably on the table
Hands may be placed gently on certain areas of the body, always with your consent, or held a short distance above it
The session may include singing bowls, tuning forks, gong, sound, breathing or moments of complete stillness
You do not have to do anything special
You do not need to concentrate, visualise colours, control the breath or search for unusual sensations
There is no correct way to receive
The treatment is not a spiritual test
You can simply close your eyes and allow the body to do what it knows how to do
What might you feel?
Experiences vary greatly from one person to another
Some people feel warmth or coolness
Some notice tingling, lightness, heaviness, pulsing or internal movement
Some see images, remember experiences, feel emotions arising or enter a state similar to dreaming
Others fall asleep
Some feel very little during the session and only notice afterwards that they are calmer or less overwhelmed
None of these reactions is better than another
Feeling a lot does not mean being more sensitive or spiritual
Feeling little does not mean being blocked
The body does not need to produce special effects to prove that something is happening
Sometimes the most important result is simply having rested without needing to do anything
The nervous system and the feeling of safety
Many people come to an energy treatment because they feel empty
Often it is not only energy that is missing
What is missing is the possibility of interrupting the state of alert
When the nervous system remains active for too long, even resting can become difficult
The person stops, but the mind continues
The body lies down, but part of it keeps checking
There is silence outside, but noise remains inside
An energy treatment can offer a stable, predictable and protected environment in which the body slowly begins to recognise that it does not need to respond to anything
It does not force relaxation
It makes relaxation possible
The difference is significant
Energy and science without unnecessary war
Discussions about energy treatments often turn into a conflict between those who want to prove everything scientifically and those who believe science understands nothing about spirit
I do not find either extreme helpful
There is not enough scientific evidence to claim that a practitioner can diagnose or cure illness by manipulating an invisible energy field
This needs to be stated clearly
At the same time, we know that environment, consensual touch, breathing, sound, attention and the quality of a relationship influence how a person experiences safety, stress and relaxation
We do not need to turn energy work into medicine in order to recognise its value
It can be a complementary, symbolic, meditative and embodied practice without pretending to replace what it cannot replace
What an energy practitioner should not do
Energy work requires responsibility
A practitioner should not tell you that every illness comes from an emotional block
They should not ask you to stop medication or therapy
They should not frighten you with stories about curses, entities, energetic attacks or contamination that only they can remove
They should not present themselves as the only person capable of reading your energy
Most importantly, they should not make you dependent on constant cleansing, protection or consultations
A good treatment brings you back towards yourself
It does not convince you that someone else has more power over your inner world
The role of intention
Intention matters, but it is not an order sent to the universe
Wanting something intensely is not enough to make it happen
Intention works more like a direction
It gathers attention around what we are ready to observe, protect, release or cultivate
During a session, you may choose to work with grounding, the ability to receive, the need for rest or a period of transition
Intention does not control the outcome
It creates a thread to follow
Sometimes what emerges is exactly what we expected
At other times, the body reveals a different and simpler need
Energy work and transformation
Transformation is often presented as something visible and dramatic
A major decision, a rupture, a rebirth, a new version of ourselves
But some transformations are almost invisible
The moment we stop reacting automatically
The moment we feel a boundary before crossing it
The moment we notice that we are tired and choose rest instead of continuing
The moment a part of the body becomes perceptible again
An energy treatment can accompany this kind of change
It does not create a new person
It helps make space for the person who was already trying to emerge
Who may benefit?
An energy treatment may be right for you when you feel overstimulated, tired, emotionally full or disconnected from the body
It may suit you if you want a gentle experience, prefer to remain dressed or do not currently feel the need for intense muscular pressure
It can accompany a transition, a period of confusion or simply offer a space in which you do not have to produce, explain or solve anything
You do not need to believe in chakras or perceive subtle energy
You only need to be willing to pause
Energy work at marilü
At marilü in Bern, energy treatments may integrate presence, touch, sound, singing bowls, gong, tuning forks and intuitive listening
Every session is adapted to the person and the moment
Sometimes the work is very quiet
Sometimes sound becomes central
Sometimes the body asks for stillness and at other times it needs to be accompanied through touch
There is no identical sequence for everyone
There is a meeting
Between your body, the period you are living through and the space needed for something to finally slow down
Do you feel the need to pause, return to your centre or move through a period of change with greater presence?
