The Lion’s Gate Portal: Sirius, Astrology and the Courage to Become Visible

Every year, as 8 August approaches, we begin hearing about the Lion’s Gate Portal, manifestation, abundance and powerful energetic openings

As often happens in the spiritual world, ancient stories, modern interpretations and beautifully packaged cosmic promises have gradually gathered around this date

I prefer to move beyond the surface, because a symbol does not need to become an absolute truth in order to be powerful

The Lion’s Gate can be understood as a symbolic threshold, a moment when the Sun moves through Leo and invites us to explore our relationship with the heart, courage, creativity and, above all, our willingness to show ourselves as we truly are

Not to become louder

Not to attract attention at any cost

But to stop hiding what is already ready to come alive within us

Why is it called the Lion’s Gate?

The name comes from the meeting of Leo season, the date 8 August and the symbolism of the number eight

In astrology, Leo is associated with the Sun, the heart, identity, creative power and the ability to express ourselves without constantly asking for permission to exist

Its energy invites us to notice how much space we occupy in our own lives

It asks us to recognise the difference between being visible and seeking approval, between expressing our light and building a character designed to please everyone else

The number eight is associated with balance between matter and spirit, personal responsibility, power and concrete manifestation

Turned sideways, it becomes the infinity symbol, a continuous movement between what we receive and what we are willing to create

This is why 8/8 is experienced as a symbolically powerful date, although no physical doorway suddenly opens in the sky at midnight

The connection with Sirius

The Lion’s Gate is frequently associated with Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky

In ancient Egypt, Sirius was known as Sopdet and its reappearance before sunrise, after a period of invisibility, was connected with the beginning of the new year and the arrival of the Nile floodwaters

It was therefore a sign of renewal, fertility and the return of life

However, it is important to be clear

The heliacal rising of Sirius does not take place everywhere on the same date because it depends on geographical location, historical period and observational conditions

The fixed association between Sirius and 8 August belongs mainly to contemporary spirituality

This does not make the symbol less meaningful, but it allows us to work with it more consciously, without inventing ancient origins that cannot be demonstrated

Myth can remain alive while still being told honestly

What manifestation really means

The Lion’s Gate is almost always connected with manifestation

But manifestation does not mean writing a wish list, lighting a candle and waiting for the universe to do all the difficult work for us

Authentic manifestation requires a relationship between intention and action

It requires us to observe what we desire, but also to ask which version of ourselves must emerge in order to sustain it

We may desire a healthier relationship, but we must also learn to recognise what is unhealthy

We may desire greater abundance, but we must be willing to value our work, receive, choose and take responsibility

We may desire visibility, but we must also be prepared for the fact that not everyone will like us

The Lion’s Gate does not only ask what we want to receive

It asks what we are ready to embody

The courage to become visible

Visibility is not necessarily about social media, success or how many people know our name

Sometimes becoming visible means finally saying what we think

Setting a boundary

Showing a talent we have always minimised

Acknowledging a desire we have hidden even from ourselves

Letting go of a version of ourselves that was created to avoid disturbing anyone

Leo symbolically rules the heart, but the heart is not only about sweetness

The heart is also about courage

The word courage comes from the Latin cor, meaning heart

To have courage means bringing the heart into our actions, even when we cannot completely control the outcome

Questions for the portal

During the days leading to 8 August, take a few minutes and ask yourself

Where am I still making myself smaller so that I do not disturb others

Which part of me is ready to be seen

What am I postponing because I am still waiting for external permission

Where am I confusing visibility with the need for approval

Which desire now requires a concrete choice

You do not need to answer everything immediately

The most important questions are not always those we fill quickly with elegant answers

They are the ones that continue working within us

A simple ritual with honey, water and light

For this ritual, you will need a candle, a small bowl of water, a teaspoon of honey, a piece of paper and a pen

Add the honey to the water and stir slowly

As you do this, think about one quality you want to bring into the next stage of your life

Do not choose only an external result such as more money, more clients or a new relationship

Choose the inner quality that could help you meet that result differently

It may be courage, trust, discernment, consistency, openness or the ability to receive

Write on the paper

I am ready to meet the part of myself that no longer needs to hide

Underneath, add one small action you can take within the next eight days

Choose something real, measurable and possible

Light the candle, read your words aloud and place a drop of the honeyed water on your wrists or over your heart

Let this gesture remind you that transformation does not always have to arrive through struggle

Sometimes it can arrive through sweetness, when we finally stop resisting the person we are becoming

Never leave a burning candle unattended and do not apply honey to the skin if you have allergies or sensitivities

The most important portal

You will not miss your destiny if you do not have time to perform a ritual on 8 August

There is no cosmic punishment for forgetting to manifest on a date considered powerful

A portal is first of all a threshold and thresholds can be crossed when we are truly ready

The most important portal is not above us

It is the one between the person we have been and the person we no longer want to postpone

At marilü, I use astrology, ritual, energy work and body awareness as tools to accompany these transitions

Not to surrender the power of our choices to the stars, but to understand the time we are living through and move across it with greater presence
