A month to let everything August stirred begin to settle

The September Sky

September does not really begin on the first of September

It begins a few days earlier

It begins with what August has left on our skin

A thought that keeps returningA decision still suspendedA tiredness that sleep alone does not seem to solveA relationship we suddenly see differentlyOr that difficult-to-explain feeling of still being ourselves, but not exactly the same person we were a month ago

We are coming out of an intense eclipse season

And perhaps September does not want to add anything else

Perhaps it simply wants to let the dust settle

September 1–4

Before moving forward, stop

The month opens on September 1 with Mars in Cancer square Saturn in Aries

Mars wants to move

Saturn puts up a wall

When these two planets meet this way, we may feel as though we are pushing against something that refuses to move

The more force we use, the more resistance we meet

So this is probably not the ideal beginning for declaring war on the world, changing your entire life before breakfast or demanding immediate answers

It is, however, an excellent moment to notice where your energy is being wasted

Because sometimes a limit does not arrive to stop us from moving forward

It arrives to make us decide where it is actually worth going

The Moon is waning and reaches its last quarter on September 4

This is a phase of subtraction

ReduceReleaseCloseMake space

✦ September 2 — relaxing massage

The waning Moon moves through Taurus, traditionally associated with physical pleasure, slowness and the senses

If August left your nervous system with twenty-seven browser tabs open at once, this is one of the most beautiful days of the month to stop processing and simply receive

Slow massageWarmthOilSilenceBreath

Nothing to understand

Only body

September 5–10

The silence before a new cycle

After the last quarter, the Moon becomes thinner and thinner

From September 7 we enter the balsamic phase, the final days before the New Moon

It is often an underestimated phase

We live in a culture in love with beginnings

New projectsNew intentionsNew versions of ourselves

But nature knows something we easily forget

Before planting new seeds, the ground needs to be empty

On September 6, with the waning Moon in Cancer, the atmosphere especially supports introspection, rest and emotional listening

Doing less on this day could paradoxically create much more

✦ September 6 — letting-go meditation

Do not meditate to manifest

Do not ask for anything

Simply sit for a few minutes and ask

What can I stop carrying

Then listen

Do not necessarily search for a sentence

The answer may arrive as an imageA sensationAn irritationA yawnA tear

Or suddenly as an overwhelming desire to throw away half your wardrobe

Even spiritual enlightenment occasionally arrives carrying a rubbish bag

September 10

The day the sky changes its voice

Then we reach September 10

Probably one of the most astrologically interesting days of the month

Within a few hours three things happen

Venus enters ScorpioMercury enters LibraUranus turns retrograde in Gemini

Three different movements that seem to tell the same story

Look again

Venus in Scorpio has little interest in superficial relationships

It wants to know what lies underneath

What we truly desireWhere intimacy exists and where only habit remainsWhere we say “everything is fine” while another part of us clearly thinks otherwise

Mercury enters Libra and reminds us that the other person exists too

Communication is not only about saying what we think

It is also learning to listen without abandoning our own position

Meanwhile Uranus stops and begins its long retrograde journey through Gemini

The revolutionary of the zodiac enters the mind

And may begin dismantling a few certainties

Perhaps the project we imagined no longer represents usPerhaps a belief we have carried for years suddenly feels too tightPerhaps we do not need to find a new answer immediately

Perhaps we simply need a better question

✦ September 10 — Tarot

The Moon is now almost completely dark and moving through Virgo

I would not use this day to ask

What is going to happen

I would use it for a much more interesting question

What am I not seeing clearly right now

Or

Which pattern is ready to be reconsidered

With Venus entering Scorpio and Uranus reversing direction, symbolic language can become an unexpectedly powerful mirror

Not to predict the future

To see the present without our usual filter

September 11

New Moon in Virgo — beginning again with the small things

In the early hours of September 11, the New Moon arrives in Virgo

After astrologically intense weeks, this Moon does not arrive with fireworks

It arrives with a broom

And perhaps that is exactly what we need

Virgo asks

What worksWhat does notWhat takes up spaceWhich habit could be changedWhere can I take care of myself more simply

Do not promise to change your whole life

Choose one thing

One

Drink more waterWalkGo to bed thirty minutes earlierCreate a boundaryTidy one roomFinally make the appointment you have postponed for months

The new cycle does not need to be spectacular

It needs to be sustainable

September 12–13

Beauty as ritual

After the New Moon, the light slowly begins to return

On September 12 and 13 the waxing Moon moves through Libra, ruled by Venus and traditionally connected with beauty, harmony and aesthetics

And here comes our very earthly interlude

Because we can meditate on Pluto as much as we like, but eventually the roots grow back

✦ September 12–13 — colouring your hair

If you want to use the lunar calendar symbolically for colour, highlights or a small change in your appearance, I would choose these two days

A waxing Moon in Libra is traditionally associated with enhancing beauty

Not necessarily to become somebody else

Rather to ask

How do I want to see myself now

Changing your hair colour can sometimes be a much more serious rite of passage than it appears

September 14–16

Going beneath the surface

On September 14 the Moon enters Scorpio

The following day, September 15, Neptune in Aries forms a sextile with Pluto in Aquarius

These are two exceptionally slow planets

Their meeting therefore speaks about something much larger than one single day

Neptune dissolves boundaries

Pluto reveals what lives underneath

It is a deeply transformative combination

Not necessarily a loud one

Quite the opposite

Some of the most radical changes begin when we simply stop identifying with something

A fearA roleA family storyA version of ourselves

✦ September 15 — energy treatment

If I had to choose one day in September for deep energy work, I would choose this one

The Moon moves through Scorpio while Neptune and Pluto speak to each other

Symbolically, it is an ideal day to work with what is not immediately visible

Repeating patternsAttachmentsMemoriesPhysical sensations that are difficult to explainLife transitionsEnergy that seems blocked without an obvious reason

The question to bring into the session could be

What is ready to transform, even if my mind does not yet know how

September 18–21

Matter begins to take shape

The first quarter Moon arrives on September 18

Energy is growing now

We are no longer in the phase of intention

Something has to begin moving

On September 19 the Moon enters Capricorn, the sign of structure, solidity and time

And this brings us to two very practical little rituals

✦ September 19–20 — cutting your hair

In lunar tradition, a waxing Moon in Capricorn is one of the combinations often chosen when a haircut is symbolically associated with strength, structure and growth

If you want a new haircut to accompany a new cycle of growth, I would choose September 19 or 20

If instead you want the style to hold its shape for longer and symbolically associate it with slower regrowth, lunar tradition generally prefers the waning Moon

✦ September 19–20 — nails

Capricorn is also astrologically connected with the structures of the body

For this reason the same days are traditionally chosen for manicures, pedicures, nail care and small body-maintenance rituals

Not because Saturn secretly manages the nail salon

But because in astrological symbolism Capricorn speaks about what supports, contains and lasts

September 23

The doorway into autumn

On September 23 the equinox arrives

The Sun enters Libra

Summer ends

The light slowly begins to retreat

The equinox is one of the most beautiful moments of the year because it reminds us of something we constantly forget

Balance is not stillness

It is movement

Day and night meet for a moment and immediately continue their journey

So do we

We do not need to find a perfect state and preserve it forever

We need to learn how to continually return to our centre

✦ A small equinox ritual

Divide a sheet of paper into two parts

On one side write

What I harvest

On the other

What I return

Nothing needs to be burned

No complicated ceremony is necessary

Sometimes writing the truth clearly is already a ritual

September 24–25

Dissolving a little

After the equinox the Moon enters Pisces

The Moon is almost full now

Water returns

Intuition grows

Boundaries become softer

✦ September 24 — deep meditation

This is probably one of the most beautiful moments of the month for a long meditation, a sound bath or contemplative practice

I would not use this energy to analyse

I would use it to perceive

Let your breath slow downLet your body become heavyAllow images to emerge without immediately interpreting them

The question could simply be

What wants to reach me

The answer does not necessarily need to arrive during meditation

It may come that night in a dream

September 26

Full Moon in Aries — I exist

On September 26 the Full Moon arrives in Aries

And suddenly there is fire

The Sun has just entered Libra, the sign of relationship

The Moon stands opposite it in Aries, the sign of identity

MeYouUs

How much can I meet you without losing myselfHow much do I adaptHow much do I expect others to adapt to meWhere do I need to begin saying again

I want this

I do not want this

This is who I am

The Full Moon makes things visible

And sometimes what it reveals is not particularly elegant

AngerDesireFrustrationA truth we tried to make more diplomatic than it really was

We do not necessarily need to act immediately

But it may be worth listening

September 27–30

The fire returns

And just when we thought September wanted us to sit in meditation forever, Mars arrives

On September 27 Mars enters Leo

The energy changes

After its emotional journey through Cancer, Mars wants to move outward again

CreatePlayBe seenDesire

Leo reminds us that we are not here only to endlessly heal something

We are also here to live

And perhaps this is the true destination of September’s journey

Not to become a perfect version of ourselves

Not to untie every knot

Not to understand everything

But to remove enough noise to hear again what makes us feel alive

The message of the month

September begins with a wall and ends with fire

First it asks us to slow down

Then to empty

Then to observe

Then to choose

And only at the end does it return movement to us

Perhaps because not all the energy we call blocked is actually blocked

Sometimes it is simply waiting for us to stop spending it in the wrong direction

So perhaps September’s question is this

Where would my energy go if I stopped forcing it to move where I had decided it should go

Maybe the body already knows
